Wreath Day - Fundraiser For Church

A series of garden talks and workshops is being held over the next few months in the pleasant room above the coffee shop at Kirkharle Courtyard, in aid of St. Wilfrid’s Church Masonry and Heating appeal.  The church is a Grade 1-listed building located a few hundred yards from the Courtyard, and badly in need of repair.

The most recent workshop was held on December 7th, when Harriet Warde-Aldam demonstrated to a large class the art of creating a stunning mantelpiece display and a number of other Christmas decorations, and finished by showing them how to make their own beautiful Christmas wreaths.

In order to raise more desperately-needed funds for the church, three talks on a garden theme will be held over the next three months; for further information contact Kitty Anderson at kitty@kirkharlecourtyard.net.

Get set and beat the winter freeze

Autumn/Winter Fair at Kirkharle Lake and Courtyard 2011

This October get ready to beat the winter freeze at the Kirkharle Lake and Courtyard Autumn/Winter Fair  weekend on 28th, 29th and 30th October, from 10am to 4.30pm each day (4pm Sunday).

During last winter’s snow blizzards Kirkharle staff joined forces with the Young Farmers and members of the community to keep the roads ploughed and open for visitors.

“Everyone worked extremely hard to ensure that there was a warm welcome with a traditional feast of festive food and drinks at our Christmas Fair last year,” explains Kitty Anderson, project co-ordinator at Kirkharle Lake and Courtyard - the historic 18th Century courtyard and birthplace of ‘Capability’ Brown, known as the Shakespeare of gardening.

“This year Kirkharle Lake and Courtyard will be transformed for our Autumn/Winter Fair weekend and we’re ready to beat the winter freeze. With over 40 craft, gift and food stalls, exhibitors from all over the region, we have a welcoming heated marquee, and free admission for all.

The Fair brings together stallholders of quality and craftsmanship. With an array of original gifts for everyone, visitors will have the cream of the crop for their Christmas list gifts, and find inspired gift ideas and indulge in tasty traditional treats from the food stalls.”

Kitty continues: “With offers at Kirkharle’s galleries and boutique shops, everyone is welcome, and its free parking and entry for all. It’s also a chance to support some of the region’s most talented craftspeople, there is a hoard of heavenly gifts. ”

Children are also invited to enjoy craft workshops from Pots and Pancakes Ceramic Painting running throughout the weekend with special Halloween activities to make the most of the amazing 18th century courtyard location this autumn.

Fizzog Face Painting and Caricatures is also providing entertainment for all the family, including the person being painted, the artist and for people who watch the work being done and admiring the end results! It will bring a colourful offering including fun Halloween themes!

Exhibitors are from Northumberland, Durham, Cumbria and Scotland. There are dozens of locally sourced Northumberland food producers offering an enormous selection of seasonal food and drink from around the region. Whether it’s a sit down meal in the restaurant, a quick snack, a bite on the move or festive drinks, with family or friends – Kirkharle’s winter wonderland has something for everyone, and Pots and Pancakes Ceramic Painting and Fizzog Face Painting and Caricatures on hand to entertain the younger ones.
